Ride to the sky

The skies finally cleared yesterday and when the sun came out we were finally able to enjoy the mountain roads to their fullest. Which meant blasting through the curvy roads by Mt. Washington on our way to DQ for dinner. Admittedly the roads were not much of a challenge as it seems my skills have improved since last I visited. It still was a lot of fun though.

Today we had a beautiful sunny day. No clouds in sight, even on Mt. Washington. You don't get too many days like this on the mountain and we were excited. Why? Because today we were riding the motorcycle up the Auto Road! We got there around ten and had a gorgeous ride up. The Ninja performed perfectly, darting through the corners and up the steep mountain, even with the extra weight of saddlebags, tank bag, and a passenger. The only difficult part was the mile or two of dirt and that was just because people don't know how to drive. It required a lot of skillful clutch moves and balancing. I had the same problem when driving my car as well. People go soooooo slow that you can't get the bike/car out of first gear without stalling or riding the clutch or stopping on a steep dirt road with certain death should you fall off the side. Seriously people, you have to go more than 2mph up the mountain!

But we were fine and had wonderful views on top. I felt sad that we didn't hike it and almost felt like we cheated getting to the top, although there is skill involved in riding a motorcycle to the top. I also wondered about the trail and thru-hiking and if we would ever pass through here. But those thoughts are for another day. The ride down was not as fun. Your passenger kind of crushes you into the gas tank. Well something like that. Also people went really slow again. Ha!

Up next on our trip was Stowe, VT. This required a ride of a couple hours through beautiful and twisty back country roads. These roads were fun and the speed limits were always high to make things interesting.

Tomorrow is a very long ride of 7 or 8 hours to Marathon NY. We will be taking plenty of breaks.
