dells, Macs and Face paint

So I dressed up for Halloween at my work. Why? Because I could. We had some festivities including Allie's famous donut cakes, candy, and the costume "parade". Now, as you can see from the picture, I was dressed up as an army man. Complete with combat boots, hat, AND CAMOUFLAGE FACE PAINT! I put it on myself so I could blend in while I work in the urban jungle. So did I win best costume? Nope. Nobody else had face paint either! Oh well, I had fun, although not being able to touch your face for 8 hours gets kinda tiring!

I was playing around with OSX Leopard the other day. You know, 10.5. Its got some cool features, looks cool. Time machine looks to be good, didn't get to try it out. There's a bunch of other stuff, lots of eye candy, not sure how much is ground breaking stuff. I mean, "spaces"? Virtual desktops have been around for a long time now Mr. Jobs! Ok all you Mac "purists", yell at me! Seriously, OSX is pretty slick, looks nice, is pretty stable, but not my first choice as an OS. I would get a pc, then put Linux on it and dual boot between Linux and Windows. But enough about the Mac vs Pc stuff...(except for the part in Leopard when you browse the network and the picture for a pc is a monitor with the BSOD and the pic for a mac is a slick LCD, whats up with that?)

On the other hand though, Dell has been frustrating me lately. Why do they have to make everything so proprietary? Just like Apple? Why do they have their own DVI connectors? Backwards AGP cards? And then today I'm trying to install XP Home on an XPS 720 for testing purposes and it blue screens. Why? Because it doesn't have the dell driver. And it doesn't have a floppy drive. So I have to ghetto up a floppy drive, to load the sata drivers, to try and load XP Home, then I get an error saying that I'm missing a file...wonderful. You build a computer yourself and you don't have any of those issues-it just works. You buy a computer from a vendor, even their top of the line, and don't even think of customizing it!
